Readynas NV+ v2 “C: unprotected”

Firstly, do not put desktop HDs in your NAS! You will have timing errors between RAID and hard drive hardware. Total pain, and worrying for nothing about perfectly fine drives.

If it’s too late and you already have done this (like me!) read on =)

Trick for forcing a resync on hard drive marked as faulty, but actually fine in RND4000 AKA Readynas NV+ v2.

I have to do this on occasion as desktop hard drives have a long delay when replying to motherboard/RAID about syncing issue or something or other, can not really remember, RAID has issue with this as it takes too long and marks the drive as fucked even though it’s perfect and you can run any test you like on it and it will return OK. If you are getting SMART errors or anything else your drive probably *is* fucked, so go buy a replacement, and worry about your data’s integrity.

Force resync on RND4000

  1. Do a normal shutdown
  2. Unplug the power cable
  3. Leave it unplugged for at least 30 seconds
  4. Plug back in power cable
  5. Boot as normal, should automatically start resyncing the drive this time.

This works for me anyhow. I will check my RAIDiator version later when my NAS is not busy.
[EDIT: RAIDiator v 5.3.8, too scared to upgrade ;-) ]
